I just wanted to write a bit about my trip with Disney references, namely, Notre Dame and how it compares.
Notre Dame was beautiful, but more in a large, majestic way, rather than beautiful like the Notre Dame de Chartes of Chartes, France. Notre Dame was a bit of a let down, but I guess I didn't get to explore it much. It was such a shame. I would have gone there a lot earlier if I knew the balcony closed to tours that soon!! I wanted to stand where Quasimodo was tied up!! Then where he climbed up and shouted SANCTUARY! SANCTUARY! But no, now there's three statues of women up there.
Little history fact for you: Notre Dame means "Our Lady" in French. All the cathedrals in Paris are dedicated to "Our Lady" but for one, which is to Jesus. YAY JESUS!!
I really wanted to see the lighted candles like Esmarelda sang by, but what I did figure out was that they must have used to use candles like that til they figured out to have little, little candles on mini table-like things. Neater, more organized, but without that... artistic quality. That beauty, you know?
Also, I wanted to see the reflection of the giant rose window on the stone floor of the cathedral. They had set up chairs everywhere! I figure they're always there too now. It would be too much work to set them up again and again. They're not your everyday average American folding chairs, my friend! But it ruined the... the... Ahhh! Can't thing of the word. You can probably come up with a great one. :) It was the wrong time of the day to see a reflection anyway.
This just means I need to return to Paris again someday and really see all there is to see. More about my trip soon?
Blessings,
Lindsay Lu
